On view through August 31
A Gueydan High graduate who draws faces you already know — and makes you look at them twice.
Chance Jolivette is a contemporary artist working in charcoal, graphite, and oil on canvas. His portraits are photorealistic to the point of unsettling: every crease, catchlight, and stray hair rendered by hand. The subjects are icons — Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Malcolm X — but the draw is the surface, where dramatic light and texture do the work a camera can't.
He learned to draw here. This show brings the work home.
